Chapter 3
As I walked over to a crowd I kept in mind, the man, I was so flattered by the fact that he thought so fondly of me. I went by the dance floors, I jumped in when I could, hopefully he took the hint. I started dancing on my own, knowing that it was a partnered dance. The tempo sped up, and after a few twirls, there he was.
“I hope you don’t mind, but I’m not a very great dancer.”
“No worries, just follow my lead, and let the music handle the rest.”
So many things ran through my mind. As soon as he started picking up the tempo, we were jumping and spinning around. The music had come to an end, people started slowing down, the chattering became quieter. It was uncomfortably silent, my ears were ringing and I couldn’t really hear a lot of what I was thinking.
“Now anyone who moves. Will have to pay the price.”
Everyone was frozen, some crouching, others stood so still, that they had to labor their breathing. I didn’t understand what was happening, until it had dawned on me. The five points, gangs. Rivalry between the Irish and American. Counting the seconds that it took for my hearing to recover, shots were fired. Wasted, and passed out some were. I hope they figure out what’s happening before they decide to start moving again. As soon as the men took what they wanted, many people from the club fled as fast as they could. I spaced out, lost in my thoughts, frozen. Until I felt a heavy tug. The man who I danced with earlier, tried to help me leave the club, knowing I couldn’t even stand on my own. My steps got heavier. My breathing was louder. My brain scattered. Until. It all stopped. I shivered one last time and felt everything just blow away. I was shot. I fell hard to the ground. Eyes still examining what I had just experienced.
END.
